Admissions

Admissions are based upon spaces available and the potential for your child’s success in the Montessori Learning Centre of Newfoundland & Labrador (MontessoriNL). Children are encouraged to spend time in the Centre prior to enrolment.

For children to experience optimum success in the MontessoriNL, both they and their parents/guardians must embrace the Montessori philosophy and methodology. Our Centre provides many opportunities for families to continue to learn and grow in this understanding.

Steps for Enrolment

1. Parent Information Session

After careful review of this website, we recommend that applicants register for a Parent Information Session (approximately one hour long). This session is designed for parents to receive further information about the Montessori philosophy and specifics about the way in which they and their children can experience MontessoriNL.

2. Forms and Initial Fees

Interested families are required to submit the following:

  • Application form.
  • $100 non-refundable application fee.
  • A completed “Getting to Know Your Child Better” questionnaire.
  • Copy of your child’s Birth Certificate.

A member of the Admissions Team will call to acknowledge receipt of your application.

3. Family Interview

Once your application has been processed, you will be contacted and a family interview will be arranged. This interview, lasting about 45 minutes, is intended to explore how the Montessori Philosophy and our Centre fits with your family’s needs.

As you proceed through the enrolment process, please feel free to contact us with your questions. We are here to support you and your child and we will do our best to ensure that your child has a smooth transition to MontessoriNL.

Acceptance

Spaces

There are limited spaces available for students. Acceptance of a child is based on a successful match between the family’s and the Centre’s educational goals for the child.

Priority

Priority is given to children with Montessori experience and their siblings. The MontessoriNL makes every effort to maintain a gender and age balance as new applicants are admitted into the remaining spaces.

Waiting List

When no openings are available, children will be placed in a pool of prospective students. In the event of an opening, children in this group will be considered for enrolment. Once you are notified of an opening, acceptance must be confirmed within five business days. Your deposit cheque will be cashed at this time. If acknowledgement is not received within the five business days, we will offer the space to the next applicant on the waiting list.

Notification

Families will be notified of class placement in May. If the registration occurred after May, families are generally notified in August.

Probationary Period

All children that are enrolled in the Program must be toilet trained before attending. We reserve the right to dismiss any student from MontessoriNL if he/she does not seem to be benefiting from the Program.
